Trust & Estate Administration

After a death, trustees, personal representatives, and family members are often left with a long list of legal and practical responsibilities. Even when the estate plan is clear, the administration process can involve financial institutions, real estate, beneficiary communications, tax matters, distributions, and important deadlines.
Levesque Estate Planning & Elder Law assists trustees, personal representatives, and families with the administration and settlement of trusts and estates.
Our work may include:
* Interpreting trust and estate planning documents* Advising trustees and personal representatives regarding their duties* Obtaining tax identification numbers and establishing estate or trust accounts* Gathering, valuing, and transferring assets* Preparing and coordinating beneficiary notices and communications* Assisting with probate proceedings when necessary* Coordinating with accountants, financial advisors, banks, and other professionals* Planning and documenting interim and final distributions* Resolving administrative issues that arise during settlement* Terminating trusts and completing final distributions
Trustee Guidance
Serving as trustee can carry significant responsibilities. We help trustees understand the trust document, identify the steps required to administer the trust, communicate with beneficiaries, maintain appropriate records, and make distributions consistent with the terms of the trust.
Probate Administration
When assets must pass through probate, we assist personal representatives with the court process, including opening the estate, addressing creditor and administrative requirements, transferring assets, and completing the estate administration.
Moving the Administration Forward
Every trust and estate is different. Some matters can be completed relatively quickly, while others involve real estate, closely held businesses, difficult assets, tax issues, or beneficiary concerns.
Our goal is to identify what needs to be done, address issues as they arise, and move the administration toward an orderly conclusion.
